Healthcare has a new model in Philadelphia, and its name is Oak Street Health.
Oak Street Health opened at 3621 Aramingo Avenue in November 2018, and on Saturday, January 26th, a Grand Opening celebration was held.
“I’m very proud of this facility that we built here, said Amyn Andharia, President of Oak Street Health’s Pennsylvania and Rhode Island region. The facility is Oak Street Health’s seventh in Philadelphia, which Andharia says will bring impact into the community and bring access that people have never experienced before. “Time and again, I’ve seen that our seniors tend to thrive under this model.”
The facility services older adults on Medicare. It doesn’t look like a doctor’s office, which Andharia is proud of. It’s a meeting place for seniors, with a community room and a schedule of fun activities. Over 200 seniors are already enjoying the health and social benefits here. Beverly Polec of Juniata told the Juniata News that she goes to Oak Street Health almost every day to enjoy what they have to offer. “They treat seniors like they are part of the family,” she said. “They’re so friendly.”
Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez saw that they play Dominoes, one of her favorite games. “I’ll be back to play,” she said.
Sanchez, who is the Vice Chair of Health and Human Services on City Council, said that she appreciates Oak Street providing needed services and hiring from the community. “This is about providing care to your family, to your neighbors,” she said. “Creating a model where you can make money and provide quality care, and those two things don’t have to come in conflict.”
Councilman Mark Squilla was impressed, saying that the best part is how engaged with the community Oak Street Health have proven to be.
