The temperature is rising and it’s imperative, especially for our senior citizens, to keep cool.
Oak Street Health at 3621 Aramingo Avenue is opening their center up today as a ‘Cooling Center’ for anyone who would like to get out of the heat.
“We instituted this in the winter time,” said Rene Rincon of Oak Street Health. When the temperatures dipped, area residents were invited to come warm up with some coffee or tea and enjoy time with others. “It’s free to come here,” he added. This time people are invited to cool down in their relaxing air conditioned Community Room with some refreshments.
Many come to the center on a regular basis to enjoy activities, games, and movies. Bev Polec was there on Wednesday, enjoying a craft. “It’s a place to come and relax and be around other people,” she said. The movie “Central Intelligence” with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart was a feature this week. “I enjoyed it,” she said.
The center will be open from 9am to 5pm today. It’s located behind the Taco Bell on Aramingo Avenue, just off Castor Avenue. You can call 888-268-2263 for more information.
