District Attorney Krasner Announces Charges Against Maurice Hill For Role in North Philadelphia Standoff

PHILADELPHIA (Aug. 19, 2019) – Following an exhaustive investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office (DAO), District Attorney Larry Krasner on Monday announced charges including attempted murder and risking a catastrophe against Maurice Hill for his role in an armed standoff in which six police officers were shot in the Tioga neighborhood on August 14, 2019.

“The actions of Maurice Hill not only resulted in the worst mass shooting of Philadelphia police officers in our City’s history, they terrorized an entire community for nearly eight hours,” District Attorney Krasner said. “This case is a damning illustration of the twin epidemics of drug trafficking and gun violence, which most often prey on vulnerable communities, making our neighbors afraid to socialize on street corners or to let their children outside to play. It is absolutely remarkable that this terrifying incident, which could have gone all sorts of sideways, ended with no loss of life and no additional harm to our police officers. The DAO will continue working with our partners in law enforcement to ensure Maurice Hill is brought to justice, and in our ongoing battle against the illegal drug and weapons trades.”
